  I have conflicting sources that list him as a 4th SGT and 3rd SGT.

Alexander McCord joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in May 1836 at York , Ontario, Canada, being baptized by Parley P. Pratt. He resided at Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois , until moving to western Iowa in  1846.

Alexander enlisted in the Mormon Battalion and serve d as 4th Sergeant in Company A under Captain Jefferson Hunt.  He marched to California, where  he was honorably discharged.  He then journeyed to Salt Lake City, Utah. Alexander went to Winter Quarters, Nebraska, between February and April 1848.  He lived at Galland's Grove, Shelby, Iowa.  He was baptized a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1859.  He was ordained an elder in 1860 and a seventy in 1861.  H e served a mission with E.C. Briggs and in 1865 with J.W. Chatburn and Samuel Wood.
