From Rosemary Flamion

I'm downloading the oldest picture of George W OMAN that I can find. It is
a copy of the thin, wrinkled, and folded picture originally taken about
1852-1853 in CA. George Washington OMAN was 44 years old (born 30 Jan 1802
Sheshequin, Luzerne Co (now Bradford) PA) when he joined the Battalion and
was 6'4" tall, according to family sources, dark hair, blue eyes.
I can tell the age because my g-grandmother Malvina Graham OMAN is about
1-2 years old. She was born 15 Oct 1851 Ogden, Weber Co, Utah Territory about
2 weeks after the Oman family arrived in the Salt Lake City area from Council
Bluffs. Can you imagine a woman nearly 9 months pregnant traveling from
Councils Bluffs to Utah Territory? I'm sure you can because other pioneer women
did
it.
I nearly lost this copy as it is the only one in existence (original is
gone) and you'll notice that a mouse ate part of the picture. I wrote above it
who the members are in the picture. You might want to include Malvina Graham
DICKEY OMAN, his wife, in the female gallery as she was the wife he left
behind in Council Bluffs area. Her picture is really not good in this rough
paper
print.
I have a couple of other pictures of George in his later years, but this
one shows him young and vibrant and about 5-6 years after the Battalion march.
Let me know what you think. You'll crop out George and Malvina, I believe.
Sincerely,
Rosemary Flamion
