Brief HistoryDaniel Tyler was born in Sempronious, Cayuga County, New York on November 23, 1821. He was a descendent of Job and Mary Tyler who emigrated to America about 1640. Daniel and his wife Ruth Welton Tyler were loyal, committed members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They participated in many of the early events in Church history. Daniel is perhaps best known for his march with the Mormon Battalion and his subsequent authorship of the book "The Mormon Battalion in the Mexican War." After settling in Utah, Daniel and Ruth fulfilled many important tasks for the Church. Daniel was called to be a mission president in England, Germany and Switzerland. When he returned, he was asked to serve in southern Utah as school teacher at Pine Valley, magistrate in Beaver, a Patriarch, editor of the newspaper, leader of the high-priests quorum to name a few. Mormon Battalion History BookFor those who would like copies of Daniel Tyler's Book or other historical information on the Mormon Battalion, please give us your e-mail or regular mailing address for further details. Daniel's book is an excellent first-person account of the trek of the Mormon Battalion. It includes a long preface by John Taylor. This is a "must read" for those interested in the Battalion. Tree
