Named, The Valiant, in memory of the members of the Mormon Battalion who truly were, this Battalion newsletter/journal began its "life" in the sesquicentennial year of their historic march--1846.
We present a tentative format: We will always be greeted on the first page by messages from our Battalion Commander and Ladies Auxiliary President. Then, an article of present importance will complete page one. National Staff and Company news will fill page two. The remaining pages will feature a short instructional article from the Quartermaster on the uniform and where to get materials (and other related items). Our projects (e.g. the sale of Tyler's book, the production and use of the neckerchief slide for Eagle Courts, etc.), and coming events wilt also be highlighted. A historical article of significance to our interests will be featured as well.
None of this is set in stone--only a suggested format--so your ideas
are welcome. Also, your historical articles are welcome. If enough relevant material is
forthcoming, we could add another page! It is the feeling of the National Staff that EACH
PAD-UP MEMBER WILL RECEIVE HIS/HER COPY, as tangible evidence of getting something for
Ms/her dues. At present, we suggest that the copies be received by the Company Commander
to be handed out at the next regular meeting (saves postage). Members could
"loan" their copy to an interested person as a ploy for enrolling new members!
We will publish 6 rimes a year at the end of the odd months (January, March, etc.). Please
get your material to Maj. George Bascom, Adjutant, by the beginning of the publishing
month (March 1 for March issue). This is a trial; the cost may prove prohibitive, bur we
will see.
