As I come to the end of my time as National Commander, I wish to thank all the members of the Battalion for the wonderful support you have given me, especially the National Staff and the Ladies Auxiliary. The last two years have been the busiest, most exciting years I have had as a member of the Battalion. The last two most exciting events was the Grand Encampment in Council Bluffs, IA, and the re-dedication of the monument between Santa Fe and Albuquerque, NM. The latter took some time to become a reality. I was aware when the monument was torn down in 1982 to make room for the widening of 1-25. Due to the cooperation of local citizens with the legislature and state officials, it now stands in splendor for all to appreciate. The dedication was attended by some one thousand people including the Lt. Governor, members of the legislature, and Elder Garn, Area Authority, who dedicated the monument. In addition, a fireside the night before added to the fervor of the occasion. Much good will come to the Battalion from these dedicatory activities. Please give the same devoted support to the new Commander and his staff as you have to me and keep up the great work and your blessings will continue. You will do exactly what Brigham Young promised those great men and women, and they will be held "in honorable remembrance," forever and ever.
