Our Company has been overwhelmingly successful in participating in events surrounding
the Sesquicentemlial year. For example:
1) Ltc. Sears dutifully continues with his "Faith in Every Footstep" series in
the SAN DIEGO SEAGULL. In addition, he Introduced 4 of our members at the showing of the
original musical, "This Land, California," which is based on pioneer and
historical events.
2) Our participation in the Lemon Grove Parade, which included Battalion, women, children,
and Scouts, was warmly received; in fact, we were invited to participate in their Old
Glory Day next year.
3) We presented 5 neckerchief slides to Eagle Scouts at their Court of Honor aboard the
Amphibious Ship, USS Denver. The crew were very impressed and served us a buffet and a
tour of the ship afterward.
4) Joimed a ward m planning a Pioneer Day activity for Battalion Day, 12 July.
5) After participating in the Coronado Day Parade, we will watch the fireworks from Ltc.
Crum's home where a BBQ is planned.
6) The Ladies Auxiliary made Helen Read, editor of the SAN DIEGO SEAGULL, an honorary
member, in appreciation for the great coverage she has given the Battalion over the years.
We also have 2 new members!
7) A new musical, "Company 'B' Mormon Battalion" is scheduled for S nights, the
end of July, at the Mormon Battalion Visitors Center (Some actors will wear uniforms
borrowed from the Battalion).
8). Our activities are being printed in three local newspapers now! (Candida Cange, L.A.,
reporting)
We continue to be very active in awarding neckerchief slides to Eagle Scouts at their
Courts of Honor. We also have enjoyed some wonderful speakers at our monthly dinner
meetings, who have given us insights Into the lives of our forefathers and have prompted
us to do more about our 5 generations, as well as our Mormon Battalion ancestors. This
month is Parade Month. We invite any from other Mormon companies to join us as follows:
July 4: Centerville, be there at 8 a.m.; Magna, be there at noon. July 23: Bountiful, be
there at 5 p.m. July 24: Tabernacle, be there at 6:30 a.m. Those carrying the colors for
Days of '47 Parade be at B. Young statue at 8 a.m. Please keep up your good work and never
lose sight of our sacred objective to fulfil the prophecy these men and women will be held
in honorable remembrance.
