PRESIDENT'S PRESENTATION - Pres. Shirley Maynes

July is always special to Utahns; this year being the Sesquicentennial makes it extra special. Sometime ago, sitting in the Tabernacle on an early July 24th morning, and watching the Battalion men rehearsing for the Sunrise Service program, I felt a certain pride sweep over me. I thought about the original pioneers and what a special legacy they have left us. I thought of the rich cultural heritage they have given us. I reminded myself of the special way they had implemented their knowledge and hard work to bring about this great State. As I watched the men perform their ceremony, I felt a special pride in belonging to this organization. I thought about the Mormon Battalion women -- those on the long march and those left behind on the lowa prairies. Their contribution in making it possible for the Saints to move west was one of true charity and love for others. They will always have a special place in the history of western migration. This year, as we march in parades and attend special programs (such as MORMON BATTALION DAY) may we remember to do our part to contribute to this legacy.
