I belong to the Grandsons of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers. One major project they sponsor is an essay contest for seminary students writing about their ancestors. This year, I was on the judging committee. We made our announcement interesting and exciting, circulated it to all the seminaries, and had spectacular participation by the students. As I interviewed the winners, I asked what the contest had done for them. They all said that they really got to know their ancestor, and that they drew closer to their family (parents, grand parents, relatives). They also developed more love and appreciation for their heritage. Could our Battalion organization create a similar program to get our youth to learn more about their Battalion ancestry and to develop more respect and love for their Battalion heritage? I would like to hear from you.
