The Bluemels--Reynold, Executive Officer, and Shauna, Auxiliary President--are moving to St. George. We express our sincere thanks for the outstanding support they have given to the activities of this Company and its Auxiliary. We will obviously miss them. But they are optimistic about forming a company in St. George! So, we wish them much success! Meanwhile, our Company has been kept quite busy in participating in memorializations, Eagle Scout Courts of Honor, flag ceremonies, and other events for the past months. I thank the troops for their willingness to participate. Support has been excellent!
Both of my wife's parents are buried in Beaver. While decorating their graves, I felt the urge to put flowers on the graves of the Battalion men buried there: Anciel Twitchell, Sgt. Daniel Tyler, and William Evans. Then, in Minersville, I did the same for my Battalion ancestors: William Wood and Charles Jameson, and also for Jerome Zabriskie (whose graves have all been memorialized). Thinking of their effort to give us the great heritage that is ours today, I realize that there is much that we enjoy that is beautiful and good because of their effort. Hopefully, all graves of these valiant men and women will be so honored.
* We also note the premature death of a new member, Harry (Scott) Clyde, who died very suddenly, May 16. He had just purchased his Class "A" uniform, and was looking forward to being in the parades this summer. We are grateful that his wife, Janice, will continue to be active in the Auxiliary. We extend our sympathies to her and the family.
Company "B" continues to encourage everyone to purchase the Memorial Blanket, in order to raise the necessary funds to erect monuments to the four men and Lydia Hunter, who died in San Diego and San Luis Rey, in 1847. This Blanket promises to become a treasured heirloom, and the money raised will go entirely to the building of the memorials. You may contact Capt. York via Internet at (http:www.mormonbattalion.org) for a detailed brochure. Incidentally, on our home page we now display the photographs of 128 members of the original Battalion--and the number is growing! Also, we are making a Descendancy Database, and several hundred have added their names to it already.
Editor's Note: We solicit your news from EACH Company. The local activities, no matter how mundane they may be considered by YOU, the company officers, are of interest to others. The activity that YOU engage in may stimulate another company to try it. One caution: You must receive permission from the National Staff before you try a NEW idea--if it requires it. Since you are using the National's name, it must conform to our by-laws and legal restrictions. To all: Please send something for every issue--by the 15th of an even-numbered month. Next, is August 15.
