"IF YE ARE ONE, YE ARE MINE ELECT"

The U.S. Mormon Battalion, Inc. is a historical and religious organization, dedicated to fulfilling prophecy. As such, it is unique--and must remain so! Because it is dedicated to achieving a spiritual purpose, it comes to the attention of the father of all lies. This we must expect, but we must not acquiesce to his temptations; our only recourse is to be continually united! To achieve this absolutely necessary objective, then, there must not be a babble of voices giving confusing directions or mis-stating the Battalion's destined course. In order to assure this continuity and narrowed-but-God-given vision, the National Staff (your elected representatives) must be the clearing house for ALL SUGGESTIONS involving any change in direction or purpose, or the means of achieving it. This does NOT mean that there is only one direction for ideas; on the contrary, we expect and encourage suggestions for improving the method(s) and procedures now employed. But it must be done in an orderly and courteous manner--through channels! We use a military format, both as a way of honoring the original Battalion, and for the disciplined way of communication.

Thus, as the by-laws state, any suggestion must come from the company, approved by the entire staff. And any direction from the National Staff to the membership, which may involve a change in the by-laws, must be ratified by the entire Battalion. Simply: The National Staff does not dictate; a Company does not practice an unauthorized procedure. Brethren, this has to be an iron-clad rule of conduct! For example, suppose a company decides to wear some accouterment on the uniform which has not been authorized by the Battalion. The company discusses it, decides in favor of it, and sends the recommendation to the National Staff. The Staff decides that particular item was not worn by the Battalion and rejects the recommendation. At that moment, the company (or individuals) face the great decision: To break with the Battalion or agree with the decision. Satan will tell them to break, for he wants us to fall. Supporting your elected representatives will maintain harmony. May God give you the courage to obey His will.
