We have come to another of those special moments in our Battalion history when we "take our measurement" as an organization. For the past two years we have been under the leadership of Col. Clayton Fairbourn and Pres. Shirley Maynes. What have we, as a Battalion and Auxiliary, accomplished? First of all, we have continued to be a strong, viable entity. Past commanding officers have given whole-hearted support to this slate of officers--a very important point. Only if we support our new officers as much as we did our past leaders will we continue to be strong, united, and successful. Now, under these new leaders there have been renewed efforts at memorializations, and we have memorialized more graves, of both men and women, than ever before! What has made this possible? Because so many of you have involved your own family organization in this program. It was your total involvement that produced such successes.
Also, having previously lost our position as the color guard of the Days of '47 Parade, with Maj. Allen Jameson's influence on the officials, we have regained this honor! Still another point: We have presented more neckerchief slides to Eagle Scouts at their Courts of Honor than ever before.
Now, it becomes our privilege and sacred duty to elect our National Officers who will serve for the rest of this century! Every one of us should be present to participate in this memorable election. A slate of candidates has been prepared. If you are a dues-paid (for at least the last 30 days) member, you should exercise your voting privilege. Please come!
Mormon Battalion Day will consist of two parts: The 11:a.m. hike up Ensign Peak to a special flag-raising ceremony and program--and to eat the sack lunch you brought! Bring your cameras! Then, the entertaining General Meeting will convene at 2:p.m. in the Ensign Peak Stake Center (at the foot of the Trail), followed by the election of officers. After a brief interlude, the Dinner and Program will convene at 6:p.m. Between these meetings there will be time to visit and exchange ideas, listen to good music, and snack on the refreshments. The dinner cost is $15. per person. Most of that amount is for the dinner, but some of it goes for the other expenses related to the Day, so it is still a bargain. The dinner will be served by Distinctive Catering, a well-known caterer who always serve an outstanding meal. Details of the event has been sent to you by flyer. We hope that YOU will feel that YOU are important enough that the day will not be as great if YOU don't participate. Let us know that YOU are coming, by sending in your reservation NOW! We look forward to a very memorable experience. Reservations deadline is September 1.
