PRESIDENT'S PRESENTATION Pres. Shirley Maynes

On Mormon Battalion Day, we are joining with California in celebrating their sesquicentennial of "The Discovery of Gold in California." Our theme is "The Mormon Battalion's Involvement in the Gold Rush Days in California." At least three Battalion women were part of that exciting time: Jane Wells Cooper Hanks, wife of Ebenezer Hanks; Phoebe Draper Palmer Brown, wife of Ebenezer Brown; and Melissa Burton Coray, wife of William Coray. Ebenezer Hanks accumulated enough wealth to later help finance the Church-owned Rancho de San Bernardino; the other two men were not successful in the gold fields, but were responsible for bringing seeds and equipment to help in building the Kingdom of God in the Salt Lake Valley. Let's honor them on BATTALION DAY by being present!
