The San Diego Master List
The Source of Names Used in the Mormon Battalion Data Base.
The source for the names used in this work is the San Diego Master List. The San Diego
Master List is the most complete roster of the members of the Mormon Battalion. It was
prepared at the Mormon Battalion Visitors Center in Old Town San Diego, California under
the direction Elmer J. Carr and contains every name that ever existed which is associated
with the Battalion. The list is a compilation often different Mormon Battalion rosters.
The compiler combined the names from the different lists alphabetically and printed one
complete roster, which considerably increased the chance of a complete roster of Battalion
names. The San Diego Master list is available from the Mormon Battalion Visitor's Center,
2510 Juan St., San Diego, California, 92110. It was printed in a volume titled, Honorable
Remembrance, edited by Elmer J. Cart. The only weakness of this roster is that none of the
names were ever verified or authenticated.
The following Mormon Battalion rosters were used by Mr. Carr to compile the San Diego
