Bibliography
The information comprising A Mormon Battalion Data Base comes from a variety of
sources. Using the San Diego Master List as a starting point, these other sources were
consulted in order to provide as complete a record as possible of the Battalion members.
Copies of journals, diaries, and biographies were found in the USU and BYU libraries, the
LDS Church Historical Department, and the Utah State Historical Society. Government
sources searched included US government pension records, US government archive records,
and records in the archives of the state of Utah. Information was also obtained from
headstones of the Battalion members. Much information was also obtained from the LDS
Family History Library, Salt Lake City, Utah.
No single source was found to be absolutely correct. Every group of records searched
was found to contain errors. It should be noted that the dates and sometimes the places do
not agree among all the sources cited. Some of the place names do not appear in modern
atlases. In some instances names are grossly misspelled. No attempt was made to correct
these types of errors. The information was recorded 7n the Database just as it appeared in
the records from which ~t was obtained. It should be noted that the Database is an extract
and does not contain the total information available from each source.
