About
The BookThis book is a compilation of the lives of 150 wives of the men who served in the Mormon Battalion during the Mexican War conflict as shown in journals and histories from the respective families. The Stories usually begin at the time of birth of the wives and ends at the time of their death. It lists the burial places of most of the women and their husbands. Also, their children are listed.....The stories follow the hardships and trials encountered by the families as they were driven from state to state until they finally reached Iowa and the men were enlisted into the Mormon Battalion. Some of the stories reveal how the women survived on the prairies while their husbands were away.....The book also gives an account of the Mormon Battalion after they were mustered out of service in July of a1847, and the various ways in which they traveled to locate their families. Some of the wives and other family members had died while the men were away. A few of the men were fortunate enough to meet their wives in the Salt Lake Valley. However, most of the wives were waiting for their husbands to return to them in Iowa, Nebraska or Missouri. Not all of the families came to the Salt Lake Valley. The stories continue on by relating the events in their lives after the Mexican War...It has taken several years of research and histories from many sources to bring about the stories in this book.
